Painting the town Purple

October 26th, 2020|

On 24th October we marked World Polio Day by displaying purple ribbons and bows and posters in the centre of West Malling.
Over thirty five businesses agreed to support this by allowing us to use their premises.  We also put collection tins in some shops. In the end we had a most striking display which apart from cheering up the streets on a rainy day helped raise awareness of Rotary and its role in the polio eradication campaign.

Our first online charity fundraiser, a quiz, was a great success raising nearly £400.00 for one of our charities for this year, West Kent Mind.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for this, we had contestants from Sweden, the US and Spain as well as more local teams.

Anne, Zamir, Mandy and Karen, a friend of Rotary spent a couple of hours litter picking in West Malling as part of the national campaign.

Coffee Morning

August 26th, 2020|

Some Club members and their partners met up in David and Maureen’s garden for a socially distanced coffee morning. This was organised at short notice to take advantage of the good weather and was an excellent opportunity to come together informally as friends and enjoy each other’s company.

Treasure Hunt

August 24th, 2020|

The first run of our 2020 Treasure Hunt took place on Sunday 23rd August. Club members and their friends set off from Manor Park, West Malling at 2pm except for team Lost Souls who lived up to their name by getting lost on the way to the start.

Participants were spotted wandering around villages, clipboard in hand, searching for answers to the questions set by Felix which might enable them to win some wine. Everyone (eventually) finished at Mereworth Church where we had a  lovely socially distanced, “bring your own” picnic. There was a tie for first place between The Three Wheelers and Mange Tout. Congratulations to them.

Huge thanks to Felix for all the work he put in setting the questions.

It’s not too late to sign up for the repeat of this on 20th September so email eventsrcmalling@gmail.com if you would like to take part. Thoroughly recommended, but only 12 cars allowed so hurry to grab your place!
